In an election, 10% of the voters on the list did not cast their votes and 60 voters cast their ballot papers blank. There were only two candidates. The winner was supported by 47% of all the voters on the list and he got 308 votes more than his rival. The number of voters on the list was:
A3600
B6200
C4575
D6028
✓ Correct Answer: B — 6200
Let total voters be x. Winner = 0.47x. Loser = (0.90x - 60) - 0.47x = 0.43x - 60. Difference: 0.47x - (0.43x - 60) = 308 => 0.04x + 60 = 308 => 0.04x = 248 => x = 6200.
